It seems that the MPAA does more illegal things of its own. It hires people to break into sites and steal information. To them, anything that stops copyright infringement is needed... They should be held accountable for these despicable tactics.

Anderson says he told Garfield that he had "an informant that can intercept any e-mail communication." Anderson didn't tell Garfield he was the "informant," and that he'd already hacked into TorrentSpy's systems. The hacker, then 23 and living in Vancouver, British Columbia, claims he had cracked TorrentSpy's servers by simply guessing an administrative password. He knew the password was weak -- a combination of a name and some numbers.

Spain Goes Completely Insane

As if the »news yesterday wasn't bad enough, Spain is now banning all unauthorized downloads. The law makes it a criminal offense for ISPs to allow it as well. Score one for the copyright cartels in Spain. I'm sure we in the US will see draconian laws like this start cropping up soon.

A Spanish intellectual property law has finally banned unauthorized peer-to-peer file-sharing in Spain, making it a civil offense even to download content for personal use. The legislation, approved by Congress on Thursday, toughens previous provisions. An early May circular from Spain's fiscal general del estado, or chief prosecutor, allowed downloads for purely personal use.

Paying for songs

Apple and Microsoft both have plans for music downloads. They want you to pay for it though. iTunes already has sold 2 million songs.

KaZaA sets download record

Kazaa is setting records by downloads of the program alone. Anyone remember Scour? Yeah, I thought so.

Sharman said by midday Friday it expected Kazaa would top the record set by ICQ. As of Thursday, ICQ has been downloaded 229,363,307 times, according to Download.com.
