Final Verdict
The HyperX Cloud Alpha Pro Gaming Headset retails for about $100 (Amazon) at the time of this review. If you are in the market for a well designed gaming headset for $100, look no further. It is comfortable, it sounds great, the controls are built into the cable that you have to use, and the extra touches that HyperX paid attention to makes it an easy choice. If you already having a working headset (like the Cloud II), it probably doesn't signify a worthwhile upgrade over the older models.
While the Cloud Alpha is more evolutionary from its older siblings, it does have a few features that even we nagged about on the previous models. The inclusion of the volume controls on the headset cable means that you can do manual adjustments even when using your phone. We have mixed feelings on the removable mic, but the quality was good enough and the added ability to plug your own mic (like a lapel style one) means greater flexibility. A gaming headset needs to not just sound good, but it must feel good for those longer gaming sessions. HyperX did an excellent job with the feel as it even improves over the Cloud Revolver. It seems to have the right amount of cup pressure and head padding. Gaming was a breeze is the Cloud Alpha with sounds clearly distinguishable from the left or right. This product remains the high quality we expect from HyperX.
