iPods filled with stolen music

Poster: Aron Schatz
Posted on October 5, 2004 at 5:21:56 PM
Steve Ballmer, the second in command at Microsoft, "Most people still steal music." I don't think it's just iPod users buddy...

Quote

He added: "Part of the reason people steal music is money, but some of it is that the DRM stuff out there has not been that easy to use. We are going to continue to improve our DRM, to make it harder to crack, and easier, easier, easier, easier to use."

I still don't have anything witty to say... What the hell is wrong with me? Ohh well, I do have something to show you though.

Motorcycle / 82341 Bytes: Click for large version

That is my motorcycle in case you are wondering, it is a Honda 1979 400CC. It runs like it was brand new (it better after a $300 tune up and fix up).

Xbox 2 in 2006

Poster: Aron Schatz
Posted on June 20, 2003 at 6:26:33 PM
Three years down the road for the second version of the Xbox. Incase you don't remember, it is built around a Intel P3 733Mhz. That CPU is aging fast.

Quote

Game consoles typically run on a five-year life cycle, which means market leader Sony would be due to replace its PlayStation 2 in 2005. But Sony executives, while refusing to make any commitments for a PS2 successor, have indicated that the Cell processor expected to power the PlayStation 3 is taking longer to develop than expected. Sony also recently announced an interim update to the PS2, the PSX home-entertainment appliance, that should add some new life to the brand, according to Peter Glaskowsky, editor in chief of industry newsletter Microprocessor Report.

It's funny, PC's have about a year and a half lifespan tops.

Is PNG Doomed?

Poster: Aron Schatz
Posted on June 9, 2003 at 5:35:00 PM
If you have noticed (or not), GIF isn't use anywhere that there can be thumbnails made. This is because Unisys still owns the patent to LZW, the compression for GIF and wanted royalties for it. Their patent ends this month. PNG actually has a bunch of problems right now, since GIF is going to be free, why do we need PNG? Sure, PNG gives a bunch of nice things, but it doesn't render alpha channels well. We'll see if it picks up.

Quote

Lilley conceded that PNG is not for everything. Photographs are better saved as JPEG (pronounced "jay peg"), or Joint Photographic Experts Group, files, and GIF offers animation capabilities that PNG was not designed to provide--though a sister specification to PNG called MNG ("ming"), or Multiple-Image Network Graphics, does support animation.
