»Microsoft To Release New Xbox 360

Apparently, Microsoft is pulling a second Vista debacle and releasing many different version of its console. The new Xbox 360 will sport an HDMI port but no HD-DVD drive. Nuts.

Quote

The new box will go on sale in limited quantities soon for $479. The details may not be precise here, but I believe it will have an HDMI connector so that you can connect at the highest speed to a high-definition TV. It will come with a 120-gigabyte hard disk drive and will have IPTV capability. Bill Gates announced in January that the Xbox 360 was capable of serving as a set-top box for IPTV, or Internet Protocol TV, which phone companies such as AT&T are using to offer high-definition movies and scores of channels in competition with TV.

This is stupid. Another friggin' marketing scheme from Microsoft. If it came with a HD-DVD drive, then it might be worth it.

Though probably not, as HD-DVD is giving up more and more ground each day.

Michael: Jodie, how's my schedule look for today?
Jodie: You've got a conference and dinner party at the Japanese Embassy regarding wildlife protection.
Michael: Oh, yeah...sorry, but I'll have to cancel that. I'm heading out to save America!

79 Dollars more, nd you get an HDMI and a 120 gig HD. If they included the HD-DVD Drive, the price would have been the same as the a little more then the PS3. Might be worth it if you have a TV with HDMI support. I'll stick to my 1080p. Although... the 120 gig HD sounds good. Hopefully they will produce and sell them seperately

The 120Gb hard drives will be sold separately for about $200. This new box is really only worth it if you don't have one already.

You could buy twin 120 gigs on New-Egg for that price. Either way, the only reason this is worth it is for the HDMI port. And a $79 hike is a little steep for that.

What they should've done is drop the price of the pro system to $300 and phase out the crappy edition and make this $400.

They haven't had a price drop yet!

I can agree with that. I had to buy the crappy edition, because, at the time, there were no other one's of any kind in the state. I called all over. The crappy edition, though economical, is.....well....crappy. No hard drive, no wireless controller, no headset, etc. I had to buy all of that crap separately. Yeah.......Microsoft gave it to me good. If I could do it all over, I would have waited for the pro system to be restocked.

Dexaronimode

Why would you want a black xb360, it would do less work, be less reliable, and then get everything greasy because it was eating fried chicken!

I think that Microsoft is just holding back technology to make people want the next "greatest" thing they come up with. It's a scam to get people to pay them more money. I guess they can't get NEW customers!

It isn't just MS that does this... most game companies do the same.

Nintendo is the worst offender.

Yes, I think this is just how the gaming industry is going to do it from now on. Believe me enough people will buy the updates or the newest things and they know it.

I know and it just ticks me off. Improve on the systems, games etc...but don't keep fixing one little thing, releasing it and acting like it's the best thing in the world!
