I just wanted to let you know that I DID read this, and plan to use the information I learned from it when I get my second 80gb ide hd.

I need to move out of 2002.

Raid 0+1 gives you the best of both worlds, data redundancy and performance but unforunately I think you need atleast four HDs for Raid 0+1.

I think Raid 0+1 is extremely wasteful. Plus, the extra layer probably introduces all sorts of latencies, canceling effects somewhat.

Fun fact: Identical hard drives don't necessarily take the exact same time to complete the same tasks. Hard drives use moving parts and as a result, things don't happen exactly the same between drives (or if a drive needs to do an ECC for a sector).
