Think you paid too much for your Playstation 3? Don't expect any sympathy from Sony.
In the company's fiscal 2008 annual report, Sony revealed that they've now lost roughly $3.3 billion (that's billion with a B) on the Playstation 3 since its launch. That breaks down to $2.16 billion in 2007, followed by a notably smaller but equally daunting $1.16 billion loss in 2008.

For comparison purposes only, really. Unlike Microsoft, who has nothing to really show for their losses with the Xbox 360; I doubt Sony shareholders are worried too much about it as Sony's Blu-Ray gamble paid off. It does show that Sony managed to halve their operating losses within a year while Microsoft is seemingly having more trouble doing so (in addition to losing far more money), though the over a billion put aside for the warranty extension and repair program probably didn't help Microsoft meet their goal.

you know i always thought that bill gates was a little cute but wait never mind another reason why i shoulden't hate microsoft is because without bill gates making microsoft how will there be an Apple computer I mean its always fun to have competition right???

Who cares if Microsoft is losing money on the hardware...Let's not forget that developers LOVE the 360...they makes lots of money from it cuz 360 owners actually BUY THEIR GAMES, and the 360 versions of those games are, for the most part, the best versions anyway. Go to any video game store and ask them what platform's games they sell the most...it's always the 360...not ps3, not wii, not pc... As long as developers are making money from the 360, the games will keep on coming...that's all that matters.

YEAH!!! Everyone cares at least a little bit that they are losing $$$(money)

as always they're always split feelings when it comes to talks about Ps3 and 360 in one conversation. I for one will buy them both cause I like to collect consoles. I like the Ps3 but I've never actually played a 360 besides in the stores so I can't really comment there. My bro and my friend (who lives with us now) both own Ps3's so there's 2 in my home.
